چکیده

Bumpmodeling is a method used to extract oscillatory bursts in electrophysiological signals, who are most likely to be representative of local synchronies. In this paper we present an improved sparse bump modeling method. The improvements are done in the adaptation method by optimizing the parameters according to the order of their derivatives; and in the window matching method by changing the selection of the initial function. Experimental results, comparing previousmethod vs the improved version, show that the obtained model fits better the signal, hence the result will be much more precise and useful.

Early Detection of Alzheimer's Disease by Blind Source Separation, Time Frequency Representation, and Bump Modeling of EEG Signals

The early detection Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an important challenge. In this paper, we propose a novel method for early detection of AD using electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings: first a blind source separation algorithm is applied to extract the most significant spatio-temporal components; these components are subsequently wavelet transformed; the resulting timefrequency representation...

Improving the Specificity of EEG for Diagnosing Alzheimer's Disease

Objective. EEG has great potential as a cost-effective screening tool for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the specificity of EEG is not yet sufficient to be used in clinical practice. In an earlier study, we presented preliminary results suggesting improved specificity of EEG to early stages of Alzheimer's disease. The key to this improvement is a new method for extracting sparse oscillatory...

Machine Learning for Signal Processing (mlsp 2005) Blind Source Separation and Sparse Bump Modelling of Time Frequency Representation of Eeg Signals: New Tools for Early Detection of Alzheimer’s Disease

The early detection of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is an important challenge. In this paper, we propose a novel method for early detection of AD using only electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings for patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) without any clinical symptoms of the disease who later developed AD. In our method, first a blind source separation algorithm is applied to extract the m...

Sparse Bump Sonification: A New Tool for Multichannel EEG Diagnosis of Mental Disorders; Application to the Detection of the Early Stage of Alzheimer's Disease

This paper investigates the use of sound and music as a means of representing and analyzing multichannel EEG recordings. Specific focus is given to applications in early detection and diagnosis of early stage of Alzheimer’s disease. We propose here a novel approach based on multi channel sonification, with a time-frequency representation and sparsification process using bump modeling. The funda...

Improved Channel Estimation for DVB-T2 Systems by Utilizing Side Information on OFDM Sparse Channel Estimation

The second generation of digital video broadcasting (DVB-T2) standard utilizes orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system to reduce and to compensate the channel effects by utilizing its estimation. Since wireless channels are inherently sparse, it is possible to utilize sparse representation (SR) methods to estimate the channel. In addition to sparsity feature of the channel, the...
